Family Seeks Justice For KNUST Graduate's Untimely Death In Hotel Swimming Pool

On June 8, 2024, Lois Abena Koranteng, a 24-year-old engineering graduate from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, took a business trip to Takoradi with her boss and a driver.

Family seeks justice for KNUST graduate's untimely death in hotel swimming pool

Sadly, Lois was discovered dead in the hotel swimming pool the next day.

Based on reports from Aaron Koranteng, Lois's older brother, the family learned about Lois's passing through a disturbing phone call.

Lois was the baby of three children. She held a job in the energy sector and often visited Takoradi and other areas during weekends for work reasons.

"Before retiring to her hotel room on Sunday night, Lois gave us a ring," shared Aaron in an exchange with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM's Omanbapa Morning Show.

Regrettably, at roughly 5:30 AM the following day, the family was alerted that Lois had drowned in the hotel swimming pool.

Apparently, once Lois returned to the hotel late at night, she opted to take a dip in the pool, as per gathered information. However, doubts persist concerning why Lois was granted permission to visit the pool zone unaccompanied and so late into the night.

Furthermore, confusion exists surrounding the functionality of the hotel's surveillance cameras possibly capturing relevant footage of the occurrence.

Police-conducted postmortem examinations showed no indications of injury, wounds, or physical harm on Lois's person.

Subsequently, her remains were escorted to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for more scrutiny. Nonetheless, findings from the follow-up autopsy have yet to reach the family, as the police carry on with their probe.

This unfortunate happening prompts worries related to security measures in hotels, especially those governing facility usage beyond normal service times—such as swimming pools. We extend our condolences to everyone affected by Lois's loss during these challenging moments.
